Thermal Imaging
at Life Charge

Thermal imaging gives us an objective look at how your nervous system is functioning, in color, in real time. It is a tool that helps us understand what the exam alone cannot show.

What It Is

A clearer picture of your nervous system.

Thermal imaging, also called thermography, measures heat patterns on the surface of the skin. Because the nervous system regulates circulation and skin temperature, areas of imbalance or stress often show up as temperature differences across the body.

This gives us an objective, non-invasive window into how your nervous system is functioning, particularly in the areas served by the spine. Unlike X-rays, which show structure, thermal imaging reflects function. Together, they give us a much more complete picture.

Dr. Palmer Piana is a Board-Certified Thermologist and reads and writes thermal reports for doctors across the country. At Life Charge Chiropractic, thermal imaging is used thoughtfully, when it adds real clarity to your care, not routinely just because we have the technology.

Objective Tracking

How thermal scan patterns can change over time.

These scans show how surface temperature patterns may change over the course of care. Thermal imaging does not diagnose disease, but it can provide another objective way to observe patterns related to nervous system regulation and how the body is responding over time.

How We Use It

Technology that brings real clarity.

Thermal imaging is one tool in a broader evaluation process. Here is how it fits into care at Life Charge Chiropractic.

1
Initial scan at the new patient visit
When clinically appropriate, we perform a thermal scan during or after the new patient exam to establish a baseline picture of nervous system patterns.
2
Results explained clearly
Dr. Palmer walks you through what the scan shows, where stress patterns appear, what they may indicate, and how they connect to your symptoms and history.
3
Used to guide specific care
The scan informs where care is focused and how it is delivered, not just where pain is present.
4
Progress scans track change over time
Follow-up thermal imaging can show how surface temperature patterns may change during care, giving Dr. Palmer another objective point of comparison over time.

"Better care starts with a clearer picture. Thermal imaging gives us another layer of that picture, one that shows how the nervous system is functioning, not just where the pain is."

Common Questions

What patients ask about thermal imaging.

Is thermal imaging safe?
Yes. Thermal imaging is completely passive, it simply reads heat patterns on the surface of your skin. There is no radiation, no contact, and nothing entering your body. It is safe for children, pregnant women, and all patients.
Does it hurt or require preparation?
The scan is non-invasive and painless. We send a short list of simple guidelines in your new-patient email so the imaging is as accurate as possible (avoiding lotion, exercise, and direct sun for a window before the scan). At the visit, we have you sit quietly for a few minutes so your skin temperature equilibrates. That is the extent of the preparation.
How is it different from an X-ray?
X-rays show structure, bone alignment, disc spacing, and spinal curvature. Thermal imaging shows function, how the nervous system is regulating heat across the body. They answer different questions, which is why both can be valuable together.
Will I get a thermal scan on my first visit?
On most first visits, yes. We typically include a thermal scan early on so we can establish a baseline of your physiology that we can track over time as care progresses. Dr. Palmer reviews the findings with you and explains how the imaging is being used in your case before any care decisions are made.
What do the colors mean?
Warmer colors (red, orange, yellow) indicate areas of higher heat, often associated with inflammation or nervous system stress. Cooler colors (green, blue, purple) reflect lower heat. The goal is symmetry and balance across both sides of the spine.
Is Dr. Palmer qualified to read thermal scans?
Yes. Dr. Palmer Piana is a Board-Certified Thermologist. He reads and writes thermal reports for doctors across the country and is one of the few chiropractors in the region with this level of formal thermal imaging training and certification.
