Beyond the Standard Exam

What we look for that others may miss.

After a car accident the ER usually rules out the worst-case emergencies and sends you home, and many providers stop at “rest and ibuprofen.” Real injuries hide in the gaps. These are the things we specifically test for that often go undetected.

01Imaging

Ligament instability

Motion-study X-rays (flexion, extension, lateral bending) reveal damaged or stretched neck ligaments that standard static films miss. A leading cause of chronic post-accident pain.

02Neuro

Concussion screen (SWAY in-office)

The validated SWAY balance and neurocognitive screen, performed in-office. Many post-accident concussions are missed because the ER never tested cognition, balance, or reaction time.

03Imaging

Disc & spinal cord injuries

When the exam suggests a disc herniation, nerve root involvement, or possible cord injury, we coordinate an MRI. These do not show on X-ray and change the right course of care.

04Spine

Upper cervical (C1/C2) involvement

A common driver of post-accident headaches, dizziness, and brain fog. Rarely evaluated in detail at the ER, and missing it is a common reason patients stay symptomatic.

05Spine

Loss of cervical curve

Even minor collisions can flatten or reverse the natural curve of the neck and accelerate degeneration over time. We measure curve angles on lateral imaging and track them.

06Whiplash

Whiplash-associated disorder grading

Formal clinical classification of whiplash severity (WAD I–IV) that informs care plan length, activity restrictions, and prognosis. Often skipped without specific MVA training.

Insurance & Payment

Most patients pay $0 out of pocket.

We bill your auto insurance directly, work with MedPay coverage, and accept personal injury liens when an attorney is involved. Costs and coverage are explained clearly before any care begins.

Common Questions

Auto accident chiropractic FAQ.

How soon should I see a chiropractor after a car accident?

As soon as possible, ideally within 72 hours. Whiplash and other soft-tissue injuries often have delayed onset, with neck pain, stiffness, and headaches showing up days after the collision. Early evaluation creates a documented baseline and lets us address injuries before they become chronic.

Does auto insurance cover the visit?

In most cases, yes. Tennessee auto insurance policies often include MedPay or bodily injury coverage that pays for chiropractic care after an accident. We work directly with your auto insurance and the at-fault driver’s insurance, and we can also accept personal injury liens when an attorney is involved.

What is MedPay and do you accept it?

MedPay (Medical Payments coverage) is an optional part of an auto insurance policy that pays for medical expenses after a crash, regardless of who was at fault. We accept MedPay, and in many cases it covers chiropractic care with no out-of-pocket cost.

I don’t feel hurt — should I still get checked?

Yes. Many post-accident injuries take 24 to 72 hours, sometimes longer, to produce symptoms, and minor neck injuries that get shrugged off can lead to significant spinal degeneration years later. An early exam establishes a baseline and protects you medically and legally.

Do I need a referral or an attorney?

No referral required. If you are working with an attorney we coordinate documentation; if not, we can help you understand your insurance options before care begins.
